Yesterday 11 of our build students went to Michael Beetham Conservation Centre, at RAF Cosford, to learn about the basic skills needed to build a plane. This was the first full day sessions in which the students were taught basic skills by the centre apprentices.
They got the chance to get hands on by marking out and dimpling a square of aluminium.
They drilled holes in to it, countersunk the holes and added in rivets.
They were also shown how to mark and drill through tubing. Lastly they were taught how to bend metal and join parts together using pop rivets.
The students extremely enjoyed the day and the MBCC staff were very impressed with their behaviour.
